The POM cricket team are 'wombles'

matt-ashes.gifNever noted for understatement, Rupert Murdoch's Sun newspaper has found a new term for England's Ashes cricket team: Wombles.

"ENGLAND’S bunch of Wombles had to face up to a nightmare Ashes scoreline last night — two Tests down, just three to play.

After seeing his men somehow blow the Second Test, skipper Andrew Flintoff said: “I never want to feel like this again.”

Freddie and his men gave a second innings display about as menacing as Great Uncle Bulgaria and Co as they lost nine wickets for 60 runs in a dire six-wicket defeat.

And the Ashes, won so spectacularly last year, have effectively now been surrendered. "

Aussies asleep on climate change

The UK government has urged the Australian Government to take global warming seriously, after an apocalyptic 700-page report warned of the economic effects of climate change. World Bank economist Sir Nicholas Stern said the world faces a massive recession like the Great depression if something is not done in the next few years.

Measures under consideration by the British Government include new taxes on motoring and air travel. The UK is proposing Global efforts including creating a market for Carbon Trading by extending the European Scheme internationally. Poorer nations will be helped through a World Bank fund. Britain also sees profit and jobs in the development of Green technology.

UK mums miss out on Mother's Day

Not only does a UK-based mum miss out on UK Mother's Day, it seems they are ignored on Aussie Mum's day too. A UK flower grower that specialises in International deliveries reports there is 'no discernable increase' in request to deliver flowers into the UK from Australia on'International' Mother's day.

Since there is a 'massive increase' in demand from Canada and Southern Africa, it seem that we may be the world's biggest meanies.

Perth drivers put to the test

It all looks so familiar when you first arrive in Aus. The sun may shine more brightly, but at least they drive on the left 'like we do'. Lulled into a false sense of security, new migrants venture onto Perth's highways, only to discover some 'odd' behaviours.

At Pom, we'd like to issue the "Highway Code" challenge to Perth drivers. Any takers?
